Researchers Say Specific Amino Acid Combo May Protect Against Dementia

Read Time:1 Minute, 23 Second

The specific combination of essential amino acids can help protect from the development of dementia, according to a new study of Japanese researchers with the National Institute for quantum science and technology. The key to this research is protein and the role it plays in brain health, among others, with researchers note that low protein diet accelerates the level of brain degeneration in mice.

This study involves a supplement called amino LP7, which contains seven essential amino acids. Researchers previously studied supplements, found that he offered an increase in cognitive function. This latest study sees whether the same specific amino acid combination can offer protection against the development of dementia in old age.

One of the main scientists of this research, Dr. Makoto Higuchi, explaining:

In older individuals, low protein diet is related to the maintenance of poor brain function. Amino acids are protein building blocks. So, we want to understand whether supplementation with essential amino acids can protect the brain of parents from dementia, and if yes, what mechanism will contribute to this protection effect.
This study involved lab rats, first stipulates that the low protein diet in the Alzheimer’s model reveals worse neuron connectivity and faster brain degeneration. Rats are given amino acid supplements, which according to the researchers reverse the problem. Additional research shows that LP7 reduces brain degeneration by suppressing the death rate of neurons.

Improvement was observed even though there was continuous from the plaque of the brain, showing that it was possible to help protect the brain from removable degeneration. Among other things, scientists found that these amino acids reduce brain inflammation and prevent inflammatory compounds called kynurenine into the brain.
